Fed: We'll stop Telstra from closing CDMA if need be - Vaile

Telstra could be prevented from closing down its CDMA mobile phone network in the bush
.. if the government's not happy with the replacement service.

Deputy PM MARK VAILE says the government has the power to make the decision because
Telstra is the monopoly provider.

Telstra wants to close the CDMA analogue service as early as December and replace it
with the Next G digital service.

Mr VAILE says it's not about threatening Telstra .. but he says the government simply
wants the company to deliver on its commitment.
