FED: Sacked textiles workers and adminstrator seek Shaw meeting
Sacked Hunter Valley workers will jump on buses tomorrow taking stories of personal
hardship to the New South Wales Government.
The Textiles Clothing and Footwear Union says sacked National Textiles workers will
head for Sydney to meet with Industrial Relations Minister JEFF SHAW.
The 342 former workers at the Rutherford factory have been told by company creditors
they will get only $7 million of their $11 million in entitlements and may have to wait
up to two years for their money.
Union organiser STEVE DAVIES says they will attempt to persuade Mr SHAW to come up
with some money or a scheme for the workers to get their money.
Mr DAVIES says the workers will try to convince Mr SHAW to use his influence on the
state and federal government.
The meeting comes as National Textiles administrators prepare to hold talks with Mr SHAW tonight.
Mr SHAW's spokesman says the state government has pledged a rescue package, but is
waiting for a response from the federal government about its contribution.
