Qld: Police outraged by premier's tactics

Queensland Police are accusing the state government of hypocrisy in their bitter pay dispute.

The Queensland Police Union of Employees' president GARY WILKINSON says police, nursesand ambulance officers are being told to accept less than their counterparts in southernstates because Queensland's low taxes justify lower wages.

Yet he says the premier and Queensland Labor members are being paid the same wagesas their southern counterparts.

Today's Sunday Mail reports Premier PETER BEATTIE is the second-highest paid premierin Australia.

As the police wage dispute escalates, the Supreme Court will decide tomorrow what industrialaction, if any, can be taken.

Yesterday the QPU rejected the government's latest offer to cut superannuation contributionsand penalty rates in line with NSW, adding the cuts to police base pay.
