Qld: Trial date set for Dubai warriors

A class action brought by non-unionists over the 1998 waterfront dispute is to be heard
by the High Court next year.

In the Brisbane Federal Court today Justice SUSAN KEIFEL set the trial down for March 11.

It's expected CHRIS CORRIGAN, chairman of Melbourne-based stevedoring company Patrick,
and National Farmers Federation officials will take the stand.

The non-unionists are seeking damages for what they claim was misleading and deceptive conduct.

GARRY SCOTT, solicitor for the 210 applicants, says they'll allege that Mr CORRIGAN,
NFF officials and others conspired to break the Maritime Union of Australia, sack workers
and bring in a replacement workforce.

He says it'll be alleged the replacement workforce was lied to about their future jobs
on the wharves.

Mr SCOTT says they were told they wouldn't be replacing the union, but competing with it.

And he's says they've been stained for life for their involvement in the dispute.
